Every first Friday of the month, a local ice cream shop offers what is possibly the most innovative and revolutionary deal in the history of the universe: all you can eat ice cream buffet.
Fanny’s is a chain here in Ho Chi Minh City, serving ice cream in the “French style”. The French must be the happiest people in all the world. The shop served up nearly 40 flavors of ice cream, ranging from boring vanilla to refreshing mango to life-changing dark chocolate espresso to disgusting durian to surprising chili chocolate.
I was on a mission to try them all!
White macadamia nut, ginger, green tea |
Heaven in a bowl |
Assorted fruit sorbets |
Along with the multitude of frozen delights, there was no shortage of toppings available. Why you would waste valuable stomach space on these extras is a mystery to me, but they were popular nonetheless.
Waffle cones, nuts, sprinkles, cookies, various sauces, weird canned fruits |
Actually, that fruit salad was super delicious |
Ate about 3 bites of this ice cream cake. Fancy, but not delectable. |
When I reached my 16th scoop (look at the pictures... they’re kind of small...), I realized I had made an amateur mistake just hours before the frozen frenzy. I ate dinner.
What was I thinking? I felt ashamed to be punking out so early in the game. So many flavors still to sample. So I powered on.
Other dairy gluttons |
I only made it to scoop 20 before I was certain the next lick would send me over the edge into a lactose puke-fest. But my roommates more than made up for my sorry showing. By far the winner of the evening and my eternal respect was Toby, who ate 50 scoops of ice cream. What a guy!
And he didn't even barf! |
